Science of Persuasion

This short video took me from not having an idea about these 6 topics and persuasion, and made me really understand all 6 and their significance. In regards to blogs, I feel that authority would have to be most crucial. I feel on any blog that discusses any knowledge or information must come from a credible author, or they would find another blog to read on the same topic. Nobody wants to read a blog on a topic the author is not fully informed about. I think bloggers often use most of these, but not likeness. Likeness in the video seemed to be more based on personal connections and wanting to be around those who make you feel good, and I don't see blogging relating to that all that much. I feel bloggers and writers in general need to use ethos, pathos, and logos for success. I feel anything persuasive is just a combination of all three, whether you realize you are using them or not. So I feel no matter what medium of writing you find yourself on, the building blocks of a successful...

Dissecting an argument

I would say that her argument in this work is that people's experiences in life directly correlate to the way that they write and create memoirs. Throughout the piece she uses a variety of methods to strengthen her argument. The two most common methods I would say would be referencing to other pieces of writing and sources to pull quotes and info, as well as referencing past experiences in her life as examples. I do not think her argument was truly very strong. I think for me personally the writing style took away from the argument. Her writing seemed very choppy with many parenthesis and areas that broke up the flow of the writing for me. I found myself constantly rereading the same paragraphs four to five times in order to try to just understand the meaning.

Memoir Ideas

When brainstorming ideas for a memoir, the first idea that popped into my head immediately was baseball. I dedicated a good portion of my freetime from elementary school till I graduated high school learning the game. Over the years of playing competitive baseball I played for some of the best travel teams in the state. It taught me a great deal about life and hard work. My career came to a close my freshman year when I decided I was going to transfer schools to OU at the semester, meaning I would have had to have missed the first full year of games. I decided to just end my career instead of trying to stay sharp for a year without getting to play. I am at peace with my decision, but also have a great deal of knowledge and stories that could contribute to a fantastic memoir. Being 19 now, I could make a memoir reflecting on childhood. Growing up as a devious child and an occasional instigator I found myself in ridiculous situations I would set myself up in and had to...

The Mamba Mentality

Community Blog Post: Memoirs The definition of a memoir is , "A historical account or biography written from personal knowledge or special sources." Memoirs are often written as a recount back on something, often written by great actors, musicians, and athletes after stepping down and retiring from the field they dominated. In addition, a great memoir had great fluidity in it's writing. A well written memoir should flow like a rehearsed speech, and not have any gaps or choppy flow. It should flow smoothly from the first page until the reader closes the book after completing the entire read. My personal favorite memoir is written by Kobe Bryant, a now retired former NBA superstar. In Kobe's memoir, The Mamba Mentality. I first read this memoir my senior year of high school. While Kobe is far from my favorite basketball player and I would not even consider myself a fan of his, he knows more about the game of basketball than nearly anyone one the planet. In the memoir...

Snowday

The first snowday of the year, a glorious occasion that must be celebrated. Today I did absolutely nothing. I can personally think of no better way to celebrate than by not leaving the house all day. I filled my day with cooking, homework, video games, watching basketball, and of course Netflix. A thrilling day and I regret nothing.

My Saturday

Today at 1, I drove across town to pick up my mom's dogs. My mom has two dogs, and when she goes out off town she pays me to watch them. While this may seem like an easy task, I also have a puppy of my own. 3 hyper dogs at once is not easy, let me tell you. I am going to have my hands full considering my mom does not arrive home for another 8 days.

My Friday

Today was nice. I spent a large amount of time cleaning my house, as well as relaxing the rest of the day once again. In addition to cleaning, I spent all day catching up on laundry, doing load after load until completion. Nothing much else to say, my life is that of a 40 year old.
